Our story

Born in Brussels. Brewed in Barcelona

Falling for Belgian beers and for Barcelona, Alex and Dimi made the journey to unite the two through Barna Brew. Starting off as consumers in Brussels, the sheer quality and variety on offer meant every day during 6 years was a beer discovery. After doing a course with BrewSpot, a meeting with master brewer Bart Durlet enabled us to put our ideas into practice at Brouwerij Anders!

A Brussels-Barcelona beer love affair

Our love for Belgian beer was matched by our love for Barcelona, a city we have come to know well over the last 12 years. Observing the strides made by craft beer pioneers like Montseny and Art Cervesers, we decided to join the craft beer revolution with our Belgian-born contribution. Our aim has always been to make Belgian-style brews with a local twist in order to have balanced and creative beers perfect for the Barcelona climate.

Our first results were the Moreneta series which comprises of a blonde, a blanche and a brune. The name was chosen to have a Catalan symbol that speaks to the Belgian abbey beer making traditions, and the results have been spectacular: Moreneta Blonde winning Gold at the Brussels Beer Challenge 2014, at the Concurso Internacional de Cervezas 2015, bronze at the Barcelona Beer Challenge 2018, and the Moreneta Brune winning gold at the Brussels Beer Challenge 2016, and bronze at the 2015 Brussels Beer Challenge, 2016 and 2017 Barcelona Beer Challenge.

Brewpub in Sant Antoni, Barcelona

With this critical acclaim, and a great popular response at the Fira de Sabadell and with our first clients such as the Belgian beer institutions, Belchica and la Maison Belge, we set about setting up our brewpub in Barcelona. With its beer history through the Moritz brewery, leafy streets and central location,  and burgeoning gastronomic offering, we decided to make Sant Antoni our home. We finally opened in March 2017, creating a perfect ambience between a Barcelona bodega and a Brussels brasserie thanks to the team at Antique Boutique, and a creative beer-food pairing menu incorporating ingredients from our beers thanks to Sergio from La Pepita. We celebrated our opening with a local caña for the neighbourhood, through our Pils Parlament, and have added our Belgian IPA, the Ceci N’est Pas Une IPA to our our regular beers. Come and try them, and check out our seasonal offerings as well!
